Orientation in Paris

Live like a Parisian in a historic quartier of the French capital. Join local residents in a café for a morning croissant before navigating the ancient avenues to the Champs-Elysées, Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower, and the Louvre. Spend the afternoon using your French to find the best traditional baguettes, cheeses, and local specialties for a picnic on the famous left bank of the Seine. Explore the Montmartre art district beneath the soaring spires of Sacré Coeur and dine at tiny cafés that serve regional specialties from across France. Master the Metro and venture across the city to take in an outdoor film at the summer cinema festival, or watch the sun set over the Jardin de Luxembourg.

Homestay and Theater

Theater brings French culture to life. Examine and perform great texts of French theater and perfect the Marcel Marceau method of mime and physical expression. Your journey begins with a visit to the renowned Comédie-Française in Paris. Following orientation, live with a French family as you enjoy the world-famous Avignon Theater Festival. At the end of your program, a weeklong theater seminar in Paris prepares you and your group to perform your own play — entirely in French!

Sample activities:
Take in performances at the Avignon Theater Festival; canoe under the Pont du Gard; visit an ancient Roman ampitheatre in Arles; learn the art of mime; work with a French director to create your own performance.
