Orientation in Santiago
Get to know Chile and its vibrant culture during a three-day orientation in Santiago. Your Spanish skills quickly improve as you visit local markets and speak to Chileans at street-side cafés. Your orientation concludes with a fascinating exploration of the historic country town of San Felipe on the outskirts of Santiago.
Homestay and Community Service in Rancagua
Journey south to Rancagua, a small city surrounded by the snow-capped Andes, to begin your two-week homestay. Sharing daily activities and lively conversation gives you a real sense of life in Chile, while survival language training gives you the tools to connectwith your Chilean friends and family. During your homestay, visit surrounding towns and villages with yourhost family to learn about traditional lifestyles, explore the Plaza de los Heroes, and visit stunning Iglesia Catedral. You and your group also work with a local nonprofit organization on a meaningful community service project and travel to the picturesque port of Valparaíso and the beach resort city of Viña del Mar.
Ecological Adventure and Community Service
Voyage deep into the Southern Hemisphere for an unforgettable 10-day exploration through Araucanía,one of Chile’s most beautiful and culturally diverse regions. Surrounded by crystal lakes, ancient forests, dormant volcanoes, and massive glaciers, you and your group visit Temuco, Valdivia, and Chiloé Island. You also work closely with Chileans on an important service project designed by local communities in need.
Sample activities: Learn about Mapuche culture by sharing with indigenous people in their traditional rukas; bargain with vendors at the vibrant Feria Libre market; boat down the Calle Calle River; take a ferry to the wooded island of Chiloé and ride horseback on remote beaches; take in the majestic panoramas across the Golfo de Ancud.
